Higher Elevations: Mushroom Magic in Sangre de Cristo Mountains
Things in Light has a real treat for y'all today. New Mexican artist Kimm Wiens shares Higher Elevations, a photo essay of her mushroom hunting adventure in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. These photos, taken in July 2010, brilliantly capture post-storm mountain magic. Feast your eyes on beautiful photos of mountain mushrooms -- including chanterelles, oyster 'shrooms, porcino, fly agaric, and hedgehog mushrooms -- and the lush, rain-swept landscape they call home.

I am a fifth-wave feminist and a reluctant member⸺hey, Groucho knew whereof he quipped⸺of both the fourth estate and the gig economy. I am an Albuquerque-based freelance writer, editor and social media marketing and branding+PR consultant. I remain an observant ’90s riot grrrl and a devout practitioner of halfhearted yoga posturing and zen and the art of the sentence diagram.
